What is Inkjet Printing?

Inkjet printing is a digital printing technology that involves propelling droplets of ink onto a substrate (such as paper, plastic, or fabric) to create images or text. It’s a non-impact printing method, meaning that there is no direct contact between the printing mechanism and the substrate, unlike traditional methods like offset printing.

Here’s how inkjet printing typically works:

  1. Ink Droplet Formation: Inkjet printers use small nozzles or jets to eject tiny droplets of ink onto the printing surface. These nozzles are controlled electronically to precisely deposit the ink in the desired locations.
  2. Image Processing: The digital image or text to be printed is processed by the printer’s software, which determines the placement and size of the ink droplets based on the desired output.
  3. Ink Application: As the printing substrate moves through the printer, the inkjet printhead assembly moves back and forth across the width of the paper, depositing the ink droplets according to the digital image data.
  4. Drying: Depending on the type of ink used, the printed material may need to undergo a drying process to ensure that the ink sets properly and does not smudge or smear.
